A diastema is a space or "gap", most often between the two upper front teeth. At some stages of dental development, it's normal to have a diastema, and the space eventually closes after the eruption of the permanent canine teeth. However, in some people, it does not.
Procedure: The patient did not want braces; therefore, we performed Instant Orthodontics (changing the shape of teeth without braces). His gum tissue was at different heights and the teeth had poor shape and angulations. We evened his tissue heights with laser gum surgery and placed Crowns and veneers to give him the appearance he wanted.
This young doctor never liked the shape or space between his teeth. He had spaces between his teeth (diastema) on his upper and lower anterior teeth. He also disliked the shape of the front teeth.
Procedure: Spaces were closed, and proper shape and contour were performed on models before proceeding to the mouth. We restored his teeth with porcelain veneers and ¾ porcelain crowns.
Testimonial: "I would always smile with my mouth closed to hide my diastema.
I feel more confident in myself now than I ever have before. It feels great that I can now show my teeth when I smile."
