I.V. Sedation

The goal of sedation or anaesthesia is to make sure you are comfortable. Some patients prefer to be completely asleep while others prefer only light sedation. Sedation dentistry is a safe way to reduce the fatigue of extended dental treatment requiring long visits

The level of sedation from barely awake (Conscious Sedation) to completely asleep (I.V. Sedation) will be based on the patients medical history and treatment needs .Dr. Campbell can do all types of dental treatment from small to large cases while you are sedated.

I.V. Sedation is recommended for a wide variety of patients,

  • including apprehensive adults,
  • very young children with a lot of dental work to be done
  • children with special needs
  • adults with time restrictions and large treatment plans that would normally take many dental appointments.
  • Anxious Adults with complicated medical history

Dr. Campbell will be performing the dental treatment in a special out-patient clinic in our building with Dr. Brian Champong performing the anaesthesia. Brian Chanpong, DDS MSc (Dental Anesthesia) is a dental anesthetist who completed his undergraduate dental degree at the University of Southern California and a three year residency in general anesthesia at the University of Toronto. He is a Diplomate of the American Dental Board of Anesthesiology and a certified specialist (Ontario) in dental anesthesia. At the Faculty of Dentistry, UBC, he is the course director for local anesthesia and minimal sedation. Dr. Chanpong maintains an out-patient anesthesia clinic that provides general anaesthesia and sedation services for dentists. (www.chanpong.com)
